"Gray" is a small cat of unknown heritage and age. He came with
the farm when I bought it in 1998. At that time, although not a kitten,
he was fairly young. He was somewhat wild and wanted no part of
being "handled" by humans. Touching him at all was a rarity.
Over the years, he has mellowed somewhat and has decided that he REALLY
likes being scratched and rubbed, although he still disappears when
there are people around he doesn't know. When it gets cold
in the winter, he has decided that it is REALLY nice to be a house "lap"
cat and sometimes doesn't want to go out at all and would REALLY prefer
to sleep in Joan's lap until bedtime, then curl up in the recliner for
the night. At this time of year, you REALLY have to move the cat
if you want the best seat in the house!
"Maggie" showed up one day at the farm around 2001 and was obviously
a "throwaway" dog. She spent the first 4 days here hiding in the
creek. I finally caught her and confined her to the deck for a few
days until she got over being afraid of me. An examination and
x-rays indicated that she had been badly beaten, shot and was pregnant.
Although timid around strangers until she gets to know you, she is a
wonderful dog, extremely gentle, and obviously grateful to have a home
and people that care for her. She has become more trusting and
protective over the years. When Maggie barks, we know something
unusual is going on or a strange vehicle is on the premises.
